Solar Power... The next big thing?
Solar Power...Is the time right to go solar right now? That’s the first question I had, Here are some more… • What’s the difference between the products? • How can I get a free estimate? • How long does it take to install? • Where can I go to get the best deals? • How to choose an experienced contractor? This page is about alternative energy and my quest to find (and share with you!) the answers to these questions and many more! It wasn’t too long ago that the idea of alternative electricity was just a dream. But with the exciting breakthroughs that are happening right now, sustainable natural power is now at the fingertips of the average household.
What is Solar Energy?
It is the energy of heat and light that comes from the sun. This energy creates wind and ocean waves and supports almost all life on earth.
Technologies convert this energy into electricity to power everything from lighting to air conditioning. This technology was used by the early Greeks, Chinese, and Native Americans by positioning the dwelling in relation to the position of the sun to fully take advantage of the natural heating that you get from the sun.
What is Solar Power?
It is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. There are many different technologies that are used to gather the heat and sunlight and convert this energy into electricity. This electricity is used in everything from calculators to sports cars and just about everything you can imagine.
Applications
This technology is being used in residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and transportation and many common items like calculators.
When designing a Solar Power project it’s important to keep in mind the geographic location of your property and the climate throughout the year. The sun in one part of the world may be directly above the property and in another part of the world the sun may be far away and at a low angle. It makes sense that a system in Alaska will have different specifications than a system in Texas. When considering green energy, it’s a good idea to be realistic about your current and future electricity needs. There are many manufacturers of equipment with options to meet your needs. To get a rough idea about the costs, your contractor will need some basic information from you like: • A copy of your utility bill for the previous 12-24 months • How is your roof angled toward the sun? • What type of roof? A good contractor has experience in helping you get any state or federal rebates and knows how to fill out the paperwork and submit it for you. Some contractors give you the rebate up front and then are reimbursed directly when they collect the rebates. The contractor will use your previous utility bill to estimate your average annual electricity usage during the previous 12-24 months. This information in combination with other important info like the size of the home and type of roof is then used to determine which system to recommend and the costs.
The Future of Solar Power
This is a great time for the Solar Power industry. There are technologies that are about to collide that will lead to many more products. Nano Solar is a technology that may lead to a product that can be literally sprayed like paint on roof’s, shingles, walls, windows, auto’s and many other products. There has never been a better time in history for green power than right now. New technology makes alternative power affordable and a great thing for your family, your home and the planet.
